EXPERIENCE:  May 2009 – Present Senior Systems Administrator – Enervest, Charleston, West Virginia

·       Lead administrator 600 node network with 32 field sites connected via VPN tunnels using SonicWall/Watchguard firewalls

·       Responsible for Disaster Recovery and backups using Backup Exec 12.5 on an ADIC Scalar i500, Scalar 50 using LTO4 drives

·       Administered maintained and installed all servers and Active Directory functions including SQL Server 2005, VMWare ESXi, Solarwinds Orion, McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator, BigFix Enterprise Suite, HP ProCurve switches

·       EMC Clarion SAN with 3 TB usable space attached to RedHat Enterprise server

·       Server consolidation project using VMWare ESXi and VMWare converter using VSphere 4.0 that reduced physical server count by greater than 50%

·       Exchange 2007 migration from Exchange 2003 with 650+ mailboxes

·       Redhat Enterprise Linux for BOLO and Unidata – performance tuning and administration.

March 2008 – May 2009 Senior Technical Consultant – Mincom, Denver, Colorado (telecommute from home in WV)

·         Senior technical lead on various implementation projects and support using various Mincom products such as Ellipse, Link One, Work Planner, and Mincom Ellipse Reporting on Windows (2000 and 2003) and UNIX platforms (Solaris, AIX, HP-UX)

·         Installed, maintained, and supported various tools on multiple platforms and hardware such as IBM WebSphere 5.0/5.1, IBM Portal, VMware ESX/GSX server, Oracle 10g DB and clients, SQL Server 2000/2003, BSI Tax Factory, BSI Compliance Factory, Windows 2003 Network Load Balancing and Cluster configuration, Citrix Metaframe XP, Microfocus Cobol

·         Met with clients to discuss customer demands and designed and implemented the systems above to fit their individual needs

·         Wrote customized scripts in various languages (perl/ksh/bash/windows vbscript/batch) to automate several tasks and provide a cheaper alternative to third party products. 

·         Trained and managed junior to intermediate level technical consultants on all Mincom products and third party applications/hardware needed to successfully complete all projects.

·         Traveled extensively throughout North America dealing with firms in mining, transit, defense and utility industries. Interacted with multiple individuals and provided documentation for all projects. Supported all customers in North America.

 

May 2006 – March 2008 Network/Infrastructure Manager – Magnum Coal Company, Charleston, West Virginia

·         Responsible for all Data Center and Field Office locations in terms of LAN/WAN equipment, Servers, SAN, backup and disaster recovery, PC/Laptops, Data/Voice circuits and PBX functionality.

·         Administered, installed, maintained the following equipment for our environment:

o    45 Windows Servers running Windows Server 2003 with Active Directory running Exchange 2003 supporting 400 users.

o    6 HP-UX11i servers running Ellipse, Oracle DB 9.2.0.8/10g, Oracle HR/Payroll/GL, Microfocus Cobol and Autofax software (rp4410 application servers, rp4640 Itanium DB servers)

o    EMC Clarion CX500 with 10TB of usable space using fiber-channel Cisco switches and fiber-channel HBA’s on UNIX and Windows.

o    EMC Legato Networker 7.3 for backups on UNIX and Windows platforms using an ADIC Scalar 24 LTO-3 tape library

o    Cisco ASA 5510 for firewall/VPN connectivity, Cisco gigabit 3750/3560 catalyst switches and Cisco 2800 series routers for field sites and corporate routing.

o    6 field sites connected by Frame Relay cloud, 6 sites using point to point T1’s and 5 sites using VPN tunnels using Cisco 2811 routers connecting to ASA 5510 at headquarters.

o    Cisco Call Manager 4.2 with Unity unified messaging for our Corporate office as well as 4 field sites (Cisco 7941,7961 and 7912 phones)

o    Nortel and Avaya PBX’s at various field sites that were not a part of our VOIP network as of yet)

o    Cisco Wireless Access Points (1131’s) using PEAP authentication and encryption at Corporate and major field sties – rolled out via Active Directory group policy

o    BigFix for patch management and asset management throughout the enterprise

·         Worked with solution integrators to migrate data and environment from Arch Coal to Magnum Equipment during a 2 month time frame

·         Automated tasks using various custom scripts in Perl/KSH/SH/WSH

·         Evaluated, recommended and purchased equipment in all phases of network and infrastructure for the Magnum Enterprise

·         Designed and developed Disaster Recovery plan for the IT infrastructure and completed a successful test at an HP recovery site in Alpharetta, GA.

·         Managed a team of six IT professionals – completed performance appraisals, designed cross-training, approved and recommended bonuses and salary adjustments

 

March 2005 – May 2006 Senior Network Engineer – Technology Solutions Charleston, West Virginia

·         Primary engineer responsible for maintaining relationships with over 70 business clients as well as assigning work and roles to two junior level engineers and eight programmers

·         Lead pre-sales technical meetings as well as designed and implemented various networks up to 200 nodes with multiple field offices.

·         Implemented various technologies including Acronis True Image, SonicWall Firebox firewalls, Dell PowerEdge servers, Barracuda Spam Firewalls, Windows NT 4 to Windows 2003 migrations, Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003 migrations, various web site applications and external email hosting, Linux with Apache/Perl/PHP/MySQL, NDC Medisoft, SOAPWare, AutoDoc, Juris, SQL Server 2000 DB migrations, Disaster Recovery, Automated backups, Network migrations from Frame-Relay/T1 to VPN using broadband technologies.

·         Implemented a VOIP solution based on 3Com technologies that saved over $100,000 in telecom costs for a multi-site client.

 

October 2003 – March 2005 Lead Systems Administrator – Columbia Natural Resources, LLC. Charleston, West Virginia

·         Primary administrator responsible for all network administration (various Cisco equipment [PIX, catalyst switches, routers, AS5350]), system administration (HP-UX 11i/11.0, Solaris 8, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, RedHat Enterprise 3.1), Database administration (Oracle 8.1.6 on HP-UX, SQL Server 2000 on Windows 2003)

·         Lead project to transfer production environment from HP-UX 11.0/Oracle 8.1.6 on N4000 boxes to new RP7410/5470 boxes running HP-UX 11i

·         Lead Frame Relay cost reduction project to convert 15 field sites to VPN using local broadband in conjunction with a Cisco Concentrator and VPN software on new 2651 routers in the field. Achieved over $180,000 savings annually on telecom costs

·         Implemented corporate-wide antivirus project (desktop/server/email (Exchange 2000) as well as anti-spam measures (GFI Mail Essentials) to help keep business email problem free.

·         Lead the design and rollout of a new corporate desktop image for 250 users using Sysprep/Norton Ghost and active directory for Windows 2000/XP

·         Implemented a Citrix Metaframe solution to dramatically increase network performance for our in-house written applications deployed at our various field sites.

·         Installed, maintained and configured a Tivoli Storage Manager environment for Enterprise backups. Completed an upgrade from 3.7 to 5.2 on the clients/server as well as installed a new ADIC Scalar 100.

·         Installed, configured and administered RedHat Enterprise 3.1 on two Dell PowerEdge servers for several geophysical applications.

·         Wrote various web-based apps in Perl, PHP, and MySQL to facilitate needs by numerous departments.

·         500 node network

 

May 1999 – October 2003 Senior Systems Engineer – Nisource. Charleston, West Virginia.

·         Part of a seven person team responsible for 250 Windows (NT 4.0/2k/2k3), 15 AIX (4.3.3, 5.1), 3 HP-UX(11i), 3 Solaris (2.8), 5 Linux (Red Hat, Debian) and 1 VMware (ESX server 1.5, 2.0) servers (8000 total node network)

·         Wrote numerous scripts in Perl and Windows Shell scripting to help with administrative overhead and management issues

·         Lead several projects on Norton Antivirus, Citrix for remote email and VMware for server consolidation.

·         Primary Unix/Windows platform system administrator

·         Backup TSM 5.1 administrator on RS-6000

·         Taught several training classes on Network/System Administration as part of an internal training program.

 

September 2003 – present Adjunct Professor – WVU Tech. Montgomery, West Virginia.

            ·       Taught two upper level computer science courses (CSCI: 365) about Perl programming and PHP/MySQL programming to 20+ students. Developed the curriculum, assignments, tests and projects. Graded and worked with the students throughout the course.

            ·      Served as part of the Computer Science Advisory Board in order to help shape the future of the Computer Science department and curriculum.

 

January 2001 – March 2005 Co-founder/owner – Extentia.Net Charleston, West Virginia

·         Co-founded and part owner of a small network/web consulting firm named Extentia.net.

·         Developed and designed interactive web sites using flash, perl/php, MySQL/SQL Server/Oracle.

·         Custom network installations that included Active Directory installation/configuration for Windows 2000, Cisco Router/switch configuration, Exchange 2000, VPN, RAS, IIS/Apache installation/configuration.

·         Wrote a document management search engine called Exsearch that we are currently marketing to local law firms. More details can be found at the website (including a list of our current clients)

 

                        1997 – 2001 Network Administrator WVUIT Montgomery, West Virginia

·         Designed and built a server-based network for WVUIT computer labs.

·         Helped with the cabling, installed 3Com link builder hubs, installed NT workstation 4.0 on all nodes, installed software such as Office 97 and Borland C++, designed and implemented a security policy for the labs, installed and maintained two HP laser jet 4 printers through a print server, installed and maintained a proxy server (ms proxy 2.0) and firewall (ipchains), and did day to day administrative work such as adding and deleting accounts, troubleshooting network problems, monitoring resources, etc., which was based on NT server 4.0 on multiple servers. Wrote custom programs in Visual Basic for the Chemistry department that automated the collection of lab data from students.
